General Introduction

The PTC polysilicon plant represents a strategic industrial project in the field of advanced materials used in renewable energy and modern electronics.

The plant is part of the global value chain for solar energy, semiconductors, and silicone-based materials.

PTC is the first and only polysilicon plant in Saudi Arabia and the GCC, with a production capacity exceeding 3,300 metric tons of high-purity polysilicon annually (+9N).

Industrial & Technology Partner – (KCC)

The plant was designed and built by the South Korean company KCC, a leader in the polysilicon industry and owner of upstream silica mines

KCC provided design, technology, reactors, and supervised operations

KCC remains a strategic partner and conducted technical evaluations in 2023 and 2024, confirming the plant’s readiness

Company History & Project Evolution

2008: Establishment of PTC and contract with KCC for design and construction.

2014–2015: Initial production and achievement of +9N purity in mid-2015.

2016: Plant reached full nameplate capacity.

2017–2019: Market slowdown and temporary shutdown for preservation.

2020–2024: Site preservation and technical evaluations by international experts and original licensors.

Product & Technology

Production of high-purity polysilicon with +9N purity (99.9999999%).

Technology used: Siemens CVD with GTAT SDR-400 reactors

Integrated TCS (Trichlorosilane) unit with 9,000 kg/hr capacity

Infrastructure supports upgrades to FBR (Fluidized Bed Reactor) and plasma technology

The plant is ready for expansion from 10 to 12 reactors, increasing production to over 4,500 tons/year

Value Chain Integration

PTC is central in three value chains:

Solar photovoltaics

Semiconductors

Silicone-based polymers

Converts metallurgical-grade silicon into high-purity polysilicon.

Supplies major manufacturers for solar cells, electronics, and industrial silicones.

Strategic Location & Industrial Advantages

Located in Jubail Industrial City, one of the largest and most advanced industrial cities globally.

Proximity to suppliers, logistics networks, and support infrastructure.

Integrated utilities and services: power, water, nitrogen, gas, and cooling.

Designed for fast restart within 12–15 months and capacity of up to 12,000 tons/year.

Product Quality & Client Approvals

Certified +9N purity polysilicon since 2015.

Approved by leading global manufacturers in China, Korea, Japan, and Canada.

Product tested for chemical purity, physical consistency, and industrial compatibility.

Clients include Trina Solar, Jinko, LONGi, Hyundai HHI, and others.

Expansion Potential & Future Outlook

Current production: 3,300 tons/year, expandable to 55,000 tons/year.

Land allocated: 600,000 m² (only 180,000 m² currently used).

Utilities already in place to support expansion.

Future plans include integration with downstream industries (Ingots, Wafers).

PTC & Vision 2030

Part of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy localization strategy launched in 2010 with Germany.

Designed to supply local demand for solar energy (14,000+ tons/year).

Supports national transformation toward knowledge-based, localized industries.

Saudi engineers were trained during the operational phase, ensuring fast reactivation potential.
